A-B-Cs
As I sit in the peaceful solitude of my living room, it is hard to believe so much of the world is in turmoil. There are many forces coalescing on humanity just now – illness, financial anxiety, international uprisings, suspicion… All of these are hallmarks of the “dark side”, and not indicators of our Heavenly Father. Which beg these questions: What is prayer? Why should we do it? Will it make a difference? The short answer is, yes. Consider this – Jesus, who is our best and highest Model, did it regularly. He went off by Himself to pray. It was a habit. It seemed to be a deep longing…

Pure
Today I woke up thinking about purity, and how the word is bandied about in marketing, used by God to describe holiness, or as an adjective to express something wonderful and good. In the still-dark morning, I began to mull over what pure means in terms of everyday life. Random thoughts were… Pure joy. Pure chocolate. Pure water. Let your mind wander for a moment. What pure things would you enjoy or appreciate today? Love? Peace? Freedom? Take a second to think of some things. I also decided to look up the word to see if there are nuances that may open up this little rabbit hole a bit more.…

Music in my Head
I got started early this morning, because I didn’t want to run my dryer in the heat of the day. So, that encouraged me to make a run over to Southlake to Trader Joe’s. That’s always fun. I haven’t been there in a while, so it was even more enjoyable. I did some other errands and chores, too – so my day has been productive. Now it’s quiet and I am remembering how my day started – before the sun was up. It was a moment. Have you even woken up with a song in your head? That happens to me frequently. Today is was one that I had not…

Heart and Mind
So many things are happening in our world today. There are two that strike me as being so insidious, that they need to be called out. Fear and Isolation Human beings, by our very nature, are social creatures. Why do you think so many of us have pets? Being social does not mean to say all of us are extroverts. Far from it! I, in fact, sometime verge on being a hermit. 🙂 What I am talking about here is what Christians call fellowship, what Aussies call mates, and what I call pals. (One pal I have is covered with fur.) There is something so profoundly beautiful about a true…

Lessons Then & Now
Some of us are able look back nostalgically on our childhood. Thankfully, I am such a person. I know others who are not as fortunate as I, and I am sorry. Today is about how then has become now… My early days were insulated and happy. Sure, like all families, we had our “moments” but mostly things were orderly and respectful. The foundations of love, faith and hope were front and center. Mom and Dad worked hard…without complaining. Looking back, sometimes I wonder how on earth they accomplished working, raising a family, renovating a 100+ year old farmhouse, while still having time for things like ping-pong or pinochle. Here are…

The Playgound
It was a pristine, rolling field full of every type of wholesome amusement a child could ever desire. Swings, slides, skating rinks, wading pools, diving pools, horseback riding arenas, tennis and basketball courts, tracks for running, trampolines for jumping… Looking across it, I wondered who had taken such time and expense to build such an incredible place to play? There were no fences. The grass was soft and warm. The sunlight not too hot, and the breeze was perfect. The sound of delighted laughter floated along along with the scent of something similar to orange blossoms. What was this place? I was met by an extremely tall young man wearing…
