    Mother’s Day Questions

It was a calendar event I used to dread. Mother’s Day…a day filled with sentiment, blessings, and perhaps for some compounded  and needle-sharp grief. Thankfully, I have harmonized the dissonant notes and come to some very positive conclusions and want to share them. Because I feel very strongly about this, I’m posting it now. Maybe there is only one other person who might be encouraged by this – who knows? Maybe there are more… Are You A Mother? Hug your child or children, if they are close. If not, call and tell them that you love them. One day, one of you might be separated from this life, and I…

    Thinking about Thanks

This is going to be one of those posts that rambles – a stream of consciousness, if you will. For the past couple of days I have been thinking about the power of gratitude. I know that is a fairly consistent theme of mine. In this case, there are tangible reasons why. This week I had someone I love very much seem disrespected. Rather than be at least a little appreciative for their efforts, they were told in a rather high-handed manner of “demands” without any sort of decency. Why, oh why is this so? Then – there is my response to this. Ah! Gotcha – or more appropriately –…

    Mysteries and Majesty

There are so many things all around us that happen, and we march right through them. A friend recently told me he stops at the end of the day and takes inventory on what has happened. He asks what can he be thankful for at the conclusion of this day? So – I’m going to tell you 3 things I’m thankful for today. I wrote them up and put them in my blessing jar, because I want to be reminded on 12/31. My church gave everyone 14 and up $50 and asked us to pray what to do with it. I prayed and was very convinced I knew exactly what…

    Rambling Thoughts

This past weekend was great. Have you ever really been in a zone? I know sometimes sportscasters talk about players hitting free throws or three-pointers being in the zone. Obviously I’ve never experienced that! My zone this weekend was completely different. My zone was my 5th book. It was like I opened a door and walked back into this world I know and love. I really love it when that happens. It feels as though I am there. I can’t really explain it, but I have friends who have seen me in the midst of it and they understand! After getting some feedback on the historical / culture accuracy of…

    Changes or Not?

There are things in life we can’t change. Very basic parameters – like when we are born. Or, where we are born. There are several factors that frame our existence. One of them is our parents. I would like to take few minutes to write down a few memories of mine regarding the people I call Mom and Dad. Both of them worked hard without blinking an eye. I really can’t recall either of them ever complaining about their work, their co-workers or duties they had while they were at work. They also made home a lovely place. The farm we had was a rambling old place built in 1863.…

    Soul Time

Today was a day for stepping it back, listening to sounds that aren’t man-made, opening my heart to hear what God has to say. It was splendid. Sammy and I drove to a park about an hour away. It was a brisk 35 degrees when we left, but the sun was dancing a solo in a crystal-clear blue sky. Sammy loves to travel,. She was eagerly looking out the back window as we cruised down the highway. Traffic was light. People in Texas think 35 degrees is wicked weather. We arrived at this magical park, and basically had the entire place to ourselves. I saw 4 people the entire time…
