Alone and Not
We are all going through this COVID thing together. I have very strong feelings about that, but because people I love very dearly believe the opposite of me, I will keep those opinions to myself. A COVID rant not the purpose of this post. As many of you know, I’m single. That is a peculiar thing sometimes. I’m not complaining – please don’t think that, just stating a fact. There are times I feel like a three-legged dog or something. A curiosity. Not quite in sync with the rest of the planet. And you know what? That’s true. Most things in life and nature work in pairs, in tandem. There’s…

Just Happy!
Sometimes there are things that happen out of the blue that are completely unexpected and wonderful. I will tell you two of them that have happened in the past day. Last week it rained a lot in DFW, and I was not able to mow the grass behind the back fence. Needless to say, I almost needed a hay bailer when I went back there yesterday. First, I tried to use my weed whacker. No dice. Then my little battery powered mower came on the scene. The grass was just too tall and dense. I persisted, murmuring, restarting the mower, murmuring some more. My neighbor came to my rescue! We…

Wind Chimes
Today is Sunday. It’s summer and breezy. A dust cloud has blown in from the Sahara, slightly masking the blue of the Texas sky. (That’s a long way!) As a kid, I loved summer on the farm in Michigan. Especially in late June and early July because it is cherry season! There’s nothing like fruit or veggies fresh from the source. It’s definitely a cut above. My fingers, lips and tongue would be cherry red. It was great. I’m a city girl now – but my heart still remains firmly entrenched in the wide open spaces. I loved the desert skies in New Mexico, biking through open areas in central…

Legacy from Dad
This weekend is Father’s Day…the memories are strong. For those of you who either are a dad or yours is still here, I hope the day is grand. This post is kind of for the rest of us. My dad was an incredible man. He grew up in the Great Depression and started working twice a day delivering papers when he was either 7 or 8. The money helped the family survive. I believe my uncle did the same. When I was little, they called me Shadow, because I always followed him around. I never once heard my dad complain about going to work. Not once. I never heard him…

Finding Joy In a Messed Up World
I’ve stopped watching the news. It is a litany of negativity – so I am turning my mind to other places. I think this quote from Helen Keller is apt today. “Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” Do you see the irony? She understood this so well and yet was blind and could not hear. It appears her perception was spot-on. Joy is a gift from God. It is part and parcel of our life when we are wrapped up in Him. However, there are distractions aplenty in our world. I guess that’s why we are advised to “take every thought captive“. Our…

The Little Things
Maybe it’s my imagination…but the interactions I have shared with strangers in the past days have been so kind and thoughtful. It is the antithesis of some of the outbursts I’ve seen online. I just want to share a couple, because they warmed my heart, and maybe they will encourage you, too. At the feed store the clerk asked if he could carry my purchase to my car. I didn’t take him up on the offer, but it was very kind of him! I wrestled the dog food to the trunk of my car with a smile on my face. I needed to go to the post office to ship…
