Speed of Light
This post is meant to be 50% fun and 50%, “hmmmm“.
Ok, Cami & Elmer – this one is for you…
Years ago, I was trying to hypothesize to one of my dearest friends that if “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all”, then perhaps when we become “like Him” we will travel at the speed of light. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Work with me on this…because it’s completely random.
According to theoretical science, if a person were to travel at the speed of light, they would not age. Could this be eternity? My semi-crazy theory is that when we shed our “earth suit” (thank you, Elmer Floyd!), our soul will lose the restrictions of time and space. I realize I have very little to go on here, especially since I’m not a scientist – just a mere writer and musician.
Then there is Newton’s Third Law. (Did you really expect you were going to get a physics lesson today?) “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” So, what is the opposite of Light? Dark, right?
Let’s talk about black holes for a moment. A most curious thing about black holes is that gravity may be infinite. And guess what? Scientists believe time stops inside a black hole, too! The difference being it is dark, it is most likely hot. Not a place that sounds particularly appealing. Also possibly eternal. I refer to this as “The Speed of Dark”. While my theory has not been embraced by academia, I think it has a nice ring to it.
So, make your choice – go with the Speed of Light and be with God, or not. It sounds to me the Speed of Dark is not a preferred option. Think about it…
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” John 8:12 NLT
I hope you enjoyed this walk through the zany planes of my mind. 🙂
